- Jane Baker
The December, 2016 Minutes were approved, as written.
Treasurer Report: Marsha McGuiness and Carole Levick stated that the club has a balance of $1,005.83. Members with outstanding dues were encouraged to submit them as soon as possible.
Membership: Joanne Dempsey welcomed new members Garry Adams and Kathy Cook to the club.
Eight (8) members were eligible for the high mileage award for members with at least 600 miles walked during 2016. The top 3 members were Jane Baker (1718 miles), Linda McNerhany (1,062 miles) and Nadine Kelly (871 miles). Bonnie Vaughan, Ginny MacDonald, Lucy Sparrazza, Mary Moran and Joanne Dempsey also walked at least 600 miles. Mary Moran won the drawing for the $50 high mileage award. Members who wish to be included in the drawing for 2017 should submit their mileage to Joanne Dempsey (JDempsey811@gmail.com) on a monthly basis. Only the current month’s mileage needs to be submitted. Joanne keeping the running total-to-date.
Tee Shirts: Debbie Vallante shared an inventory of the club tee-shirts, sweatshirts and jackets currently available for purchase. Members should let her know what they would like to purchase, including any that would need to be ordered (an Order Sheet was also circulated).
On behalf of the club, Mary thanked Carol Greenberg for a wonderful and well-attended Christmas party. Everyone enjoyed delicious dishes and desserts contributed by our talented members. The Shy Wolf Sanctuary visit was also well-attended and very informative. Wendy Bright did a great job organizing this event. Pictures of our events can be viewed on our Facebook page.
Mary reminded everyone that the Naples Daily News Half-Marathon is next Sunday, January 15th. We will be working the water stand on Gordon Drive where we will set up on the west side of the street. Please meet at 6:00 a.m. and park on the median between 18th and 21st Avenues South right across from the water stand. Also bring cookie sheets, plastic pitchers, and long-handled mixing spoons, all labeled with your name. We are the first and last water-gatorade station for the 1,700 plus runners, and the race begins at 7:00 a.m. Coffee and bagels will be provided for volunteers.
Carol Mumford invited any members that have not yet signed up for the January 21st Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary guided boardwalk tour to join us. The tour with a naturalist begins at 10:30 (90 minutes) and the cost is $14. The sanctuary is located off Immokalee Road near Orange Tree. An optional lunch stop at an Italian restaurant at Russell and Immokalee is planned.
Mary suggested that perhaps members would like to attend the Swamp Buggy Races on January 18-29 at the Florida Sports Park at Rattlesnake Hammock and C.R. 951. Please let her know if you are interested.
Jackie and Karl Kempe have offered their Forest Lakes clubhouse for our February 12th (Sunday) potluck dinner. A volunteer is needed to coordinate the event. Members voted that Mary’s ukulele group be asked to entertain at the event.
Thanks to the efforts of Joanne Dempsey, the Naples Walking Club newsletter is being revived. Please send newsworthy items, jokes, trivia, etc. to Joanne (JDempsey811@gmail.com) before the first of each month. The newsletter will be distributed during the first week of the month.
There was no other business and the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 a.m.
