The February, 2017 Minutes were approved, as written.

Treasurer Report: Marsha McGuiness reported that the club has a balance of $1,013.85 as of February, 2017. She also reported that we had received thank you letters from St. Matthew’s House and Grace Place for our donations; both organizations were very appreciative.

Membership: Mary Moran welcomed new members Deborah Stevenson and Terri Muldoon to the club.

Mileage: Joanne Dempsey encouraged everyone to submit their mileage to her on a monthly basis.

Tee Shirts: Debbie Vallante indicated that she would be meeting with the t-shirt company. She asked if members would be interested in pastel or other-colored t-shirts rather than only the white shirts. Members responded in the affirmative.

Relay for Life: Mitchell Zale, Relay for Life Volunteer, was our Guest Speaker. The Relay to support the American Cancer Society will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 beginning at 6:00 p.m. and ending on Saturday April 8, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. at Gulfview Middle School. This year’s event has a Dr. Suess theme. He invited the club to join in supporting the Relay and described various options for participating. One option includes having a team table where we could distribute information on the club. About 4,500 participants walked in last year’s relay and this year’s goal is $365,000. All levels of participation are welcome.

NAMI Walk: Mary reported that the NAMI Walk in Cambier Park on February 25th was well-attended by club members. It was a fun and very worthwhile event.

National Walking Day: Mary encouraged all members to participate in National Walking Day on Wednesday, April 5th at 5:30 at Cambier Park. It is sponsored by the Blue Zones Project and will begin with a one-mile walk to the Naples Community Hospital’s Garden of Hope and Courage. Participants will get a Blue Zones t-shirt, enjoy wine after 5, and be eligible for the $1,000 prize drawing if they RSVP on Eventbrite: http://bit.ly/Q8ziN Club members were encouraged to arrive by 5:00 and wear their Walking Club t-shirts. Mary is continuing to try to get our club recognized as a Blue Zone group.

Picture Party: Carol Greenberg is hosting a wine and cheese party on Monday, March 13th from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at her home. Members will be able to peruse old scrapbooks and take pictures they are interested in. Carol also reminded members about the upcoming Cure PSP Awareness and Memorial Walk being held on Saturday, March 18th at 10:30 a.m. in Mackle Park on Marco Island. Please let Carol know if you are interested in participating.

Palm Cottage: Mary circulated a copy of a brochure on Naples Historical Society’s walking tour of Olde Naples from Palm Cottage on Wednesday’s. She also circulated a sign-up sheet for several alternative dates. Cost of the event is $22 for non-Historical Society members, and $16 for members. The tour starts at 9:30 and last for two hours.

Other Proposed Events: Mary proposed several future events including a walk through the hills of Caxambus on March Island which would be on a Saturday morning with breakfast following. She also suggested a 7-mile hike at Collier-Seminole State Park which would be held during the week. She encouraged members to visit our website at www.napleswalkingclub.org , and to join our facebook page and post pictures. Wendy Bright reported that her sister-in-law saw information on our club in a recent magazine publication.

Next Meeting: The next meeting of the Naples Walking Club will be on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Perkins Restaurant on Pine Ridge Road.
